"Colorado" 12/29/2003
I am home now in Colorado with my family for the holidays. Strangely enough it seems to me like I never left;I was walking down the street one day, slipped and fell and hit my head. While unconscious I dreamed about this wonderful place called St. Vincent. Then I woke up and was back in Colorado. It didn't even take me very long to get re-acclimated to the cold. I wonder what it will be like when I go back to St. Vincent again. Saturday night as I sat in a stadium with 20,000 other people watching a NHL (Avalanche beat the Flyers 3-2) game I realized that the distance between St. Vincent and Colorado goes far beyond the 4000 miles. Everything is different. From the color of the landscape to the attitudes of the people. I cannot imagine how much culture shock it would be for someone from St. Vincent to experience a place like Colorado for the first time. While home I have: driven all the way to Elko, Nevada to visit my Uncle Jon and his family, gone mountain biking, eaten at restaurants, gone four wheeling wiht my brother in our pickup trucks, seen a snowstorm, watched a movie in a theater, wandered around a shopping mall, and spent lots of time in the mountains. In some ways I miss St. Vincent, but overall I am very glad to be home. I appreciate life here so much more now that I have been away. I hope that when I return to St. Vincent I can appreciate the time I have there too. |
