"Trinity Falls" 11/26/2002
I had a desperately needed escape from reality this weekend. On Saturday, a bunch of us Peace Corps got together and watched some football, ate hamburgers, and hung out. Then on Sunday we went for a hike to Trinity Falls. The trip to the falls was great, except that it rained most of the time. I really enjoyed getting out and doing some physical activity. I never thought that I would get completely and totally out of shape while in the Peace Corps. That is one among many of those little letdows that have been really bothering me lately. I've really been struggling for the past few weeks. "But you're living in the Caribbean, going on all these cool adventures", you might say. I also wake up in the mornings sick to my stomach from finding myself here, not at home. I am no longer surprised that so many of last year's volunteers went home early. Yeah, it's weird, but hopefully I'll be able to get over it. I'm not used to facing non-practical challenges, so this will be interesting. I at least hope to learn to enjoy my time here even though I am far from home. I am betting that the lessons I learn here will be more valuable than the 5 years of computer science that are already drifting out of my head. |
