Limey the Lizard. Possibly the very one that keeps leaving little lizard turds in my kitchen. These guys can climb up walls and on ceilings. They can also jump really far and are freakishly intelligent.

"A Rainy Day" 10/13/2002

The past few days have been really hot, so am sooo relieved to have a rainy day. Complete with lots of big thunder too. I am feeling a little more adjusted to my new surroundings now. With something to do this past week, things have seemed much better. I am also getting weaned from the TV, but am anxious to have cable for when the shooting starts (in Iraq if I am reading this 30 years from now and wonder what the heck I am talking about).

Yesterday I went to the beach at Stubbs with Amanda. It was a pretty good day. The beach there is totally abandoned and doesn't have as much trash as the beaches up here. There are sandbars that go out into the surf quite a ways. You'll be shin deep one minute and chest deep the next. The currents get pretty strong though, so I didn't ever get to where I couldn't touch bottom.

I am getting to know my neighbors a little better. Slow but sure. I think that they are kind of trying me out for a little while first. That is fine. The kids all like to come over which can be nice depending on the kid. One, Timron can be a pain. The other night when I went inside to try and get ready for bed, he stayed and pounded on my door until I had to send him home in a meaner fashion than I wanted to. He is kind of a difficult kid, and that may mean that home isn't his favourite place to be, as I am sure that his mother has plenty of things to worry about. Maybe it is the other way around though. Camila's (next house up the road) grandchildren are great and are fun to have around. They also don't mind going home when I ask.

I am still struggling with homesickness and would sure like to see a snowflake every now and then. At the same time I am also feeling a little better because of having started running again. I was seriously out of shape there. I still have dreams of one day making one final assault on the running (or endurance sports) world. At least I will be working on keeping some "muscle memory" for now.
