"Carnival" 07/15/2003 Before I left for mid-service training in Dominica, St. Vincent had its Carnival. Now to be honest, I didn't like carnival at all. There is definitely a point where culture ends and depravity begins. In my opinion, Carnival is way on the other side of that point. How can a culture be based on drunkeness, sex, and foolishness? As a Peace Corps Volunteer it is my job to try and experience and become a part of this culture, so I try to understand it. To me, the culture of St. Vincent is having cooks by the river, dancing at funerals, and coolin' out. Maybe Carnival was culture at one point. To me it seemed to be just a corporately sponosred over advertised money machine. Just like Christmas back home. Anyways... That's just my commentary on the whole thing. Maybe I'm just bitter because I had a bad time.
