"Court" 05/11/2003
It's been a while since I've written in my web journal. Mostly because things have been so busy lately. I have been spending quite a bit of time getting things organized to start classes at the new resource center in Colonarie. Now I will be in charge of 2 computer labs, 50 computers total. I'm gonna be pretty busy, but that is ok. You can never really be too busy here on St. Vincent. Last night South Rivers had "Court". It was a very interesting experience for me. "Court" is basically a mock trial. The main idea is for everyone to get together and have a good laugh. The subject of the trial is incest, and the whole thing would definitely be rated R if it were a movie. There is a judge, a jury, a prosecution, a defense, witnesses, everything. Everybody acts crazy and has a good laugh. The main reason it was an interesting experience for me was that I am beginning to realize how great it is to live in a small village. Everybody knows everybody. I'm even getting to the point where I recognize at least half of the people. It was great to see how everyone from the village can get together and have a good time laughing at each other. On Thursday I found out that we are going to lose Amanda. She is a very good Peace Corps volunteer and a friend to almost everyone. I say "almost" everyone because she is getting sent home due to some of the political type bs that always happens in these types of organizations. I only have a few of the details, but someone decided to anonymously rat on her for breaking one of the Peace Corp's rules. Now she has to go home against her will and St. Vincent loses a good computer teacher. Way to go rat. We did get a new bunch of volunteers 2 weeks ago. They are all going to be working in health education and community development. They all seem pretty cool. They are going to have their swearing in ceremony on Thursday. That's about all the exciting news for now. |
