"Kittens" 4/23/2004

One of the cats that lives in my neighborhood decided to give me a present the other day. Three new kittens! She had been hanging around my house ever since I fed her a hot dog a few months ago. Once I saw she was making babies I gave in and started getting cat food for her. I hope she understands she'll have to go make friends with someone else or go back to catching lizards and rats once I leave.

I knew she was about to have her kittens because she started howling and howling. Then she started sneaking into the house and into one of my closets, something she has never done before. I looked on the interet and sure enough, about 12 hours before cats give birth their nesting instinct kicks in. I made a nice cozy little cat house on my porch for her, and there the kittens were in the morning when I woke up.

This is one of the big problems of being a Peace Corps Volunteer. You live in a place for two whole years, make it a home, get attached to a lot of things, and then it's time to go. I think the next few months are going to be really hard.
